Helen Swadling, age 89, of Fostoria, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2016 at the United Hospice Service of Marlette.  Helen was born on May 31, 1927, the daughter of  George and Beatrice (Havers) Lowe.  Helen married Maurice Swadling on February 16, 1944 in Lapeer, Michigan and they were married 62 years. Helen was an attendant nurse at Oakdale State Home with 27 years of service.  Helen was a member of the Pleasant View Free Methodist Church in Mayville, where she had a calling ministry.  She enjoyed camping, gardening and playing dominoes, but she especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.  Helen’s mothers family was musically talented, they played instruments and sang in the Haver’s Band at funerals and special events.

Helen is survived by her daughters: Bonnie (Jim) Beckwith of Fostoria, and Rosemary (Charles) Knox of North Branch; sons: Ted (Jan) Swadling of Fostoria, and David (Jane)Swadling of Otter Lake; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Maurice, grandsons: Bradley and Steven Swadling. 

Memorials may be made to the United Hospice Service of Marlette.

The family will be present for visitation on Monday, January 2, 2016 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home.  The Funeral Service will be Tuesday, January 3, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Pleasant View Free Methodist Church, Mayville.  Pastor Paul Armstrong will officiate.  Helen will be laid to rest next to her husband, Maurice in Deerfield Cemetery.
