Vernon G. Steele, age 81 of Clifford, passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2020 at Marlette Regional Hospital. Vern was born on April 17, 1939 in Pontiac, MI. the son of Roy and Neta (DeCoe) Steele. He grew up in the Silverwood area. He was a 1957 graduate of North Branch High School. On August 17, 1963, he married his sweetheart, Gertrude Ruhlman at St. Mary’s Burnside Church. Vern was a dairy and crop farmer and a rural mail carrier for the Clifford/Silverwood area. He enjoyed hunting, western movies, listening to country music, and International tractors. Vern was a fan of the Detroit Tigers. The coffee pot was always on at the Steele home when company came to visit.
Vern is survived by his wife, Gertrude; his children, Barb (Bill) Curell, Joe Steele, Mike (Kristie) Steele and Doug Steele; his grandchildren, Kim Curell, Brian Curell, Mason Steele and Lindsey Steele; his sister, Vera O’Rourke; his brother, David (Kathleen) Steele; the Ruhlman family; many nieces and nephews; many close and caring friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Kevin Curell; his brother-in-law, Patrick O’Rourke.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Marlette Extended Care.
Visitation for Vern will be on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, 3:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home. On Wednesday, November 18, 2020, Vern will lie in state at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 10:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M.. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 A.M. Father Sama Muma will officiate. Masks are required for everyone who attends the visitation or Mass. Vern will be laid to rest at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Clifford, MI.
