Robert E. Rowley, 93 of Lapeer, formerly from Show Low Arizona passed away on September 16, 2024 at home with his daughter by his side. Bob was born on July 23, 1931 in St. Johns, MI, the son of Richard and Eva (McDonald) Rowley. He was raised in Royal Oak, MI. He proudly served his country in the Marine Corps from November of 1949 until February of 1953. He attained the level of Staff Sergeant in the 1st Marine Division and was part of the operations against enemy aggressor forces in Korea. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Navy Unit Commendation among other notable service awards.
Bob spent his career in Communications with Michigan Bell Telephone Company. Later becoming an Engineer and Educator in Fiber Optics in the Great Lakes Region of ATT. Bob enjoyed traveling, golf, skiing and entertaining friends. He was a member of the American Legion Post 225, A lifetime member of the VFW Cottonwood, Arizona and the North Branch Masonic Temple. He was also an active member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners in Show Low Arizona where he and his fellow Shriner’s spent many years providing assistance to the community children through their White Mountain Clothe-A-Child Charity and their association with the Shriner’s Hospitals of America.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Deborah (James) Nelson, Patricia (Steven) Hinson, grandchildren Alexandra Hinson (Rob) and Montgomery (Sara) Hinson, two greatgrandchildren, Gilmour and Scarlett, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first love Caroline and his soul mate Doris, his siblings William, Doris and Margaret.
In lieu of flowers memorial offerings may be directed to The Shriner’s Hospital.
A gathering of family and friends of Bob will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, 11:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home. A Memorial and Masonic Service at 12:00 P.M. Military honors will be conducted by the North Branch American Legion Post 457.
