Larkin S. Martinez, age 69, a long time resident of North Branch, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2022 at Beaumont Hospital, Troy Campus, surrounded by his loving family. “Tony”, as he was affectionately known, was born in Edmore, Michigan on March 04, 1953 to Norma Ruth (Robinson) and Silverio A. Martinez Jr. Tony married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Rebecca “Becky" Sanders on December 29, 1973 while he was a student in college. Tony graduated from Michigan State University in 1976 with a Bachelor Degree of Science in Horticulture and began his career with the State of Michigan Department of Agriculture in 1977, where he worked for 38 years before his retirement in 2015.
Tony was a devoted and dedicated husband, father and grandfather who had many hobbies and was skilled at many things. He enjoyed working, fixing/repairing things, gardening, detailed woodworking, reading, especially Stephen King novels, and staying up-to-date on television series and movies, but favored the classics. Tony’s favorite holiday was Halloween and for many years Tony and Becky were well known in the community for their Halloween decorations. It was something Tony looked forward to doing each year. More than anything, Tony enjoyed spending time with his family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Becky Martinez; daughter Beth Ann Martinez; son Timothy Martinez and his wife Brandy; sister Maxine VanPelt; brother John Martinez and his wife Judy; sister Joy Huston; sister Ann Martinez and partner Mack Smith; sister Donna Alleshouse and husband Chris; brother David Martinez; granddaughter Miranda Leigh and her fiancé Charles; granddaughter Emerald Leigh and her boyfriend Dave; granddaughter Tiana Martinez and her fiancé Tyler; grandson; Anthony Martinez and his girlfriend Aurora; many nieces and nephews.He was preceeded in death by his father, Silverio A. Martinez Jr.; his mother Norma Ruth (Robinson) Martinez; and an unnamed great grandchild.
There will be gathering on Sunday, October 23, 2022, 1:00 P.M.-2:00 P.M. at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home with an eulogy given by his son Tim Martinez at 2:00 P.M.
In keeping with Tony’s wishes cremation has taken place.
