Kirk Finkbeiner, age 68, of North Branch, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2020 at McLaren/Lapeer Regional Hospital with his family by his side. Kirk was born on May 15, 1951, in Detroit, MI. the son of Leslie and Nellie (Stringer) Finkbeiner. Kirk grew up in the Garden City area and moved to the North Branch area when he was a junior in high school. Kirk was a 1969 graduate of North Branch High School. He was a star basketball player for the North Branch Broncos. Kirk proudly served in the US Army. He was stationed in Germany and patrolled the east/west German border. Kirk married Virginia Doherty on May 8, 1976 at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Marlette, MI. Kirk retired from MK Chamber Co. He was an active member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, North Branch Knights of Columbus Council #9568, North Branch American Legion Post 457 and a chartered member of the Lapeer Elks. Kirk loved to bowl and achieved a 300 game. He was the Elk’s State Bowling Champion winner. He enjoyed camping and having a cold one with friends. His grandbabies held a special place in his heart. Kirk was always willing to lend a helping hand and help anyone who was in need. Kirk is survived by his wife, Virginia; his son, Chad (Natalie) Finkbeiner of Ray Township; his daughter, Rebecca (Al Farmer)) Finkbeiner of North Carolina; his grandchildren, Tyler, Kara, Christopher, Sophia, Makenly and Alyssa; his sister Janet (Rob) Fox; his sister-in-law, Jane Finkbeiner; his brothers and sisters in-laws- Darlene (Al) Pitcher, Theresa (Leonard) Redmond, Catherine Somerville, Phil (Becky) Doherty, Vicki Doherty, Linda (Terry) Bisset, Cynthia (Marek) Marcol, Marilyn (Ric) Swoish and Patrick Doherty; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Kirk was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, David and Michael Finkbeiner; his sister, Barbara Nelson; his father and mother-in-law, Carl and Evelyn Doherty; his brothers-in –law, Gary Somerville and Tom Doherty.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the North Branch Knights of Columbus #9568 or the North Branch American Legion Post #457.Visitation for Kirk will be on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, 2:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, March 5, 2020, at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in North Branch. Father Sama Muma will be officiating. Kirk will be laid to rest on Friday, March 6, 2020 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI.
Military honors will be conducted by the North Branch American Legion Post 457.
