Joyce Groat Obituary

In Loving Memory of Joyce Carol Groat (Davies)

April 5, 1946 – May 17, 2024

Joyce Carol Groat (Davies) passed away peacefully on May 17, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Born on April 5, 1946, in Marlette, Michigan, Joyce lived a life full of warmth and joy, touching the hearts of all who knew her.

Joyce married Richard (Dick) Dorman Groat, on June 5, 1964. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and partnership until Dick's passing on June 3, 2015. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared many wonderful years.

Joyce is survived by her beloved children: Tracey (Kevin) Schultz, Richard (Amy) Groat Jr., and Pamela (RJ) Holder. She was a proud and devoted Nana to nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she relished every moment spent with them.

Joyce had a passion for playing bingo and cards, and she found joy in planting flowers, creating fragrance and beauty that reflected her bright spirit. She was a proud member of the Oddfellows, where she found camaraderie and purpose. Joyce was a counselor for Grief Share, a faith-based support group for those who have lost loved ones, where she was not only able to share her grieving experience, but also her love for the Lord.

Though she was not known for her culinary skills, Joyce delighted in making deviled eggs, Rice Crispy squares, and her famous "Mud" pudding, which became a staple at every family gathering. These simple yet delightful treats were a symbol of her love and care.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Marie Davies, her two sisters, Joan Crittenden and Nancy Knox, and her beautifully perfect great-grandson, Leland Campbell. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.

As we remember Joyce, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and the simple joys that made her special. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

A “Celebration of Life” service will be held at Deerfield Township Hall on June 8, 2024 from 1p – 3p.

In honor of Joyce, let us cherish the moments we share with our loved ones, as she always did. May she rest in peace, reunited with Dick and the family members who went before her.

"To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die."
