Johnnie Irene Sherman, 85, of Silverwood, passed away on July 3, 2026 at McLaren/Lapeer Region Hospital. Irene was born on August 1, 1940, in Indian Mound, Tennessee, the daughter of John and Millie (Parker) Taylor. The Taylor family moved to Michigan when Irene was 11 years old. She graduated from Rochester Avondale High School. Irene was the first in her family to graduate from high school and she was homecoming queen. Irene was a homemaker. She loved taking care of her family. Irene enjoyed sewing and gardening especially her rose bushes. She was an active member of the North Branch Band Boosters. She was the uniform chairperson. Irene also sewed costumes for the drama club. Irene was very involved in both the music and drama department of North Branch High School.
Irene is survived by her children, Tammy Rowan, Ron McCall, Terri (Gary Jr.) Manthei, 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren plus 2 soon to be born, siblings, Brenda Sikes and Janie Kelly. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Jerry, Wanda, and Donald.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the North Branch Band.
The family will be present for visitation on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, 11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home with funeral service to follow at 1:00 P.M. Pastor Jared Nies will officiate.
