John McLaughlin Obituary

 John L. McLaughlin, age 97 of North Branch, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at the Lapeer County Medical Care Facility. John was born on January 20, 1923 in North Branch, MI. He was the son of William and Evelyn (Law) McLaughlin. John grew up in the North Branch area and graduated from North Branch High School in 1940.  John proudly served in the U.S. Army. John retired in 1980 as a tool and die maker from General Motors.  

On September 2, 1950, John married Genevieve (Jenny) Dennis at First United Methodist Church in North Branch. They would have been married 70 years in September. John was a member of the North Branch Wesleyan Church. He helped build the church and the school. John and Jenny were custodians for both for over 30 years. He loved playing cards with Jenny, coffee with the Brass Lamp crew and most of all spending time with his family.

John is survived by his wife, Jenny; his daughter, Jane Hyde; his grandchildren, Jennie Papke, Cindi Schlicht and Charla Pauley; his great-grandchildren, Savannah Schlicht, Michael Papke, Megan (Jacob) Schlaud, Nikolas (McKenzie) Schlicht, Paul Perales, Peyton Pauley and Madison Pauley; his great-great-grandchildren, DeClan Schlaud and Ellie Schlicht: many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Evelyn “ Toby “ Grunenwald: his granddaughter,Tara Ann Papke ; his brothers, Thomas, William, James, Joseph and Charles;  his sisters, Beatrice Franzel, Doris Diegel and Marion Swailes.

 

Memorials may be made to the family.            

A  Private Funeral Service will be held for John.
