Helen Marie (Rossman) Smith

Helen Smith, age 91, of North Branch passed away on Monday, March 11, 2019 at United Hospice Service of Marlette Regional Hospital. Helen was born November 11, 1927 in Pontiac, MI to Austin and Marguerite (Calkins) Rossman. She grew up in North Branch and graduated from North Branch High School in 1944. She attended college and became a lab technician. She worked in Dr. Porte’s office for over 30 years. On March 19, 1949 she married Herbert Smith in Bowling Green, OH. Helen was a member of the North Branch United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She enjoyed daily walks around town, quilting, baking, flower gardening, camping and playing cards. Most of all, Helen loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Helen is survived by: her daughter, Duan (Dave) Castle of North Branch; son-in-law, Chuck Winslow of North Branch; grandchildren, Jamie VerPlanck, Beckie Winslow, Chad (Rita) Castle, Jason (Louise) Castle and Robert (Quincy) Castle; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Herbert; daughter, Melodie Winslow; and granddaughter, Angie Winslow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.

Family will be present for visitation on Saturday, March 16, 2019 from 11 am to 1 pm with the Memorial Service at 1 pm with Rev. Ron Hutchinson officiating all at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home. Helen will be laid to rest next to her husband in Westlawn Cemetery at a later date.
