H. Eugene “Gene” Newbegin, age 87, of Clifford, passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 5, 2021. Gene was born on December 30, 1933, the son of Harrison and Jennie (Thompson) Newbegin. He grew up in the Clifford area and was a 1952 graduate of Marlette High School. On June 19, 1954, Gene married Ellen Griffin. She passed away in 1992. On June 29, 1996, Gene married Debbie Schneider in Clifford, MI. Gene was a dairy and crop farmer. He enjoyed collecting 2 cylinder John Deere tractors, reading World War II books, camping and traveling. He loved spending time with family and visiting with his neighbors.
Gene is survived by his wife, Debbie, his children, Grace (Noah) Skalski, Gary (Karen) Newbegin, Laurie (Tim) Williams, Tom Newbegin and Susan (Chris) Bridger, his step-son Trey (Lisa) Bazinaw, his 18 grandchildren, his 17 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Ellen, his grandson, Kevin Newbegin, his sister, Grace Lanway and his brothers, George Newbegin and Jim Newbegin.

The family will be present for visitation on Monday, May 10, 2021, 1:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home. On Tuesday, May 11, 2021, visitation will be 10:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M. at North Branch Wesleyan Church with funeral service at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Mark Harriman will be officiating. Gene will be laid to rest at Westlawn Cemetery.
