Gyrome “Gerry” Edwards age 70 of Davison, formerly of North Branch died peacefully at his son’s residence on March 10, 2022.   Gerry was born in Greenville, South Carolina on June 13, 1951 to his late parents Everette and Dorothy (Irwin) Edwards. He grew up in Dearborn and Dearborn Heights, Michigan and was a graduate of Crestwood High School, Dearborn Heights, Michigan class of 1969. 

Gerry is survived by his son Ryan (Trisia) Edwards, step-daughter Sommer (Dave) Dupuis, grandchildren Martina (Paul) Stewart, Merissa (John DiPillo) Edwards, Elizabeth Dupuis and Luke Dupuis, and daughters (in love) Kyrie’ McCormick and Olivia McCormick. Gerry is also survived by his siblings Roberta (Jay) Jerore, Randy Edwards, Rhonda (Craig) Forquer, and Gregory Edwards, along with several nieces and nephews.

For over 40 years Gerry provided a public service commitment to the citizens of the State of Michigan, more specifically the citizens of Lapeer County.  Gerry was a State of Michigan Building Official, Plan Reviewer, Building Inspector, Instructor, Fire Inspector, Fire Safety Plan Reviewer, and International Code- Fire inspector. Gerry Edwards was a Certified Fire Protection Specialist and an Emergency Medical Technician, with Hazardous Material Training. He has served as Thumb Area Municipal Services Vice President and the CEO of Liberty Land & Code Consultants.  

A few of the responsibilities Gerry Edwards has undertaken in his Industrious life are: Columbiaville Village, Ordinance Enforcement; Otter Lake Village, Ordinance Enforcement; Dryden Village, Building & Zoning; Metamora Township & Village, Building & Zoning; North Branch Township & Village, Building & Zoning, Housing & Rental, Fire Marshal; City of Imlay City, Zoning; Mayfield Township, Building & Zoning, Fire Marshal; Rich Township, Building & Zoning; City of Davison, Zoning Board of Appeals and City Commissioner; Oregon Township, Zoning Board of Appeals; Deerfield Township, Building & Zoning; Elba Township, Building & Zoning.  In addition, Gerry served for many years with the Construction Code Authority as Building & Zoning Official and Supervisor of Services. The Lapeer County Construction Code Authority was Michigan’s first multi-jurisdictional authority created to provide services to over 29 communities in Lapeer, St. Clair and Genesee Counties, including building, zoning, electrical, plumbing fire prevention, HVAC, housing and regulatory ordinance administration.

Gerry loved people and social interaction.  He was willing to offer assistance wherever he could, especially with regards to his career knowledge.  He was very passionate about his yard work and keeping the grounds ornate and manicured just as his father had.  Gerry loved family, friends, and adventure and also loved his puppies Ryder and Liberty.  Some of his interests were hunting, fishing, kayaking, camping, flea markets, antiquing, and motorcycle adventures.  He wasn’t here for a enough time, but was certainly here for a good time. He was also proud to be of the 2% population that did not have voicemail.

Visitation for Gerry will be on Friday, March 18, 2022, 10:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M. at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home with funeral service to follow at 4:00 P.M.   Pastor Keith Atwood will be officiating. Per Gerry’s wishes cremation has taken place.
