Frederick L. Woodrow passed away August 2, 2023 after a short and devastating illness. Fred was born on October 13, 1935 to Milton (Mike) and Edna (Tingle) Woodrow in his maternal grandparents home in Wayne County. Fred has been a resident of Lapeer County, near Columbiaville, since the age of 3. Fred attended Lapeer County High School where he met the love of his life, Jerriene (Potter) Woodrow. They married on January 16, 1954.
He was the beloved “Daddy” to his girls: Elizabeth (Betty) , Sherrie and Janet. Fred was the proud “Grandpa” to 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great- grandchildren. He was also Uncle Fred to many.
Fred retired from AC Spark Plugs after 42 years of service. He was a deacon at Peoples Baptist Church. Fred was well known to be a gentleman in all ways and never met anyone he couldn’t share interest or stories with. He was an avid woodworker, beekeeper, gardener, and tended a beautiful orchard of heirloom variety apples. He carried on the family tradition of maple syrup production right up to the illness. He was a talented carpenter who built his own house, additions, renovations and barn. He assisted in building homes for many family members and friends, as well.
He could fix anything. He created an ingenious cider press out of an old washing machine and made cider for fall celebrations every year. Many people in the extended family and community came to Fred with their puzzles. He was practical and funny with a “just get it done” attitude that he instilled in his girls and grandchildren.
Fred is survived by his wife, Jerriene, his daughters, Elizabeth (Ricky) Files and Janet Boyns, his 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren, son-in-law, Larry Lamphier, sisters-in-law, Thelma Woodrow, JoAnn Woodrow, in-laws, Barbara Arms, Jason and Marilyn Potter, He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Sherrie Lamphier, son-in-law, Sam Harris, brothers, Milt (Iva) Woodrow, Bob (Eileen) (Betty) Woodrow, Charlie Woodrow, Bill Woodrow, in-laws, Duane and Beatrice Potter, Alan Arms, Ray and Jean Wildey.
Heaven gained a gentle soul and Fred will be mourned and greatly missed by many.
