Ernest "Ernie" Fantin Obituary

Ernest Fantin, age 83, of North Branch, passed away on September 1, 2021 at  McLaren Lapeer Region.  Ernie was born on August 30, 1938 in Fanzolo, Italy, the son of Natale and Edevige (Miatello) Fantin. The family came to the United States when he was just a child. He grew up in the North Branch area and was a 1959 graduate of North Branch Area Schools.

On April 29, 1961, he married Patricia Traubenkraut at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in North Branch, MI.  Ernie dedicated his life to his family and retired from General Motors after 35 years of service. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Ernie also enjoyed hunting, gardening and working on his farm.

Ernie is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Pat, his children, Ida Marie (Patrick Tetreau) Trott, Margaret Shooshanian, Guisseppe  (Kristin) Fantin, Barbara (James) Berry, Paulo  (Susan) Fantin, Theresa (Chuck) Skene, Ernesto (Heather) Fantin and Maria (Jim VanDyke) Fantin, his 23 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren;  his brothers, Giovanni Fantin, Carlo (Chris) Fantin, Mario Fantin, his sister-in-law, Carol Fantin and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Maria Buono, Bruno Fantin and Danilo Fantin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church.

Visitation for Ernie will be on Saturday, September 11, 2021, 10:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M. at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Richard Treml will officiate. Ernie will be buried at SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
