Edward “Ed” Sloan, 53, of Brown City passed away on Saturday December 27, 2025 at his home with his family by his side. Ed was born on July 7, 1972 in Lapeer, the son of Douglas Sloan and Darlene Mejia-Gonzalez. Ed grew up in Lapeer and attended Lapeer East High School. On October 27, 1995, Ed married Rachel Freeland at the court house in Lapeer. Ed owned and operated Sloan Home Improvement.
Ed was a true outdoorsman, who loved hunting. He enjoyed morel hunting, watching westerns especially Gunsmoke, cooking, and a good cold beer. He loved spending time with his family and friends and being a Papa.
Ed is survived by his wife, Rachel, children, Amber (Chris) Cronk, Aaron (Genevieve) Freeland, Jared (Chloe) Freeland, grandchildren, Bentley, Zoey, Sutton, Presley, plus one on the way, his mother, Darlene, sister, Julie Sloan, brother, DJ Sloan, step-siblings, Rosemary, Melissa, Mike, Andy, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to family.
The family will be present for visitation on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, 10:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home with funeral service to follow at 12:00 P.M. Pastor Tim Ross will officiate. Ed will be laid to rest at Burnside Township Cemetery.
