Dorothy D. Yakes – 12/22/1934

Passed away on Friday August 14, 2020 at the age of 85 at her home in North Branch with loving husband Leo Yakes, and family by her side.

Dorothy was born in Caro, MI at her family farm.

Dorothy married Leo Yakes 04/19/1951, in Wilmont Michigan, being married for 69 years.

Leo and Dorothy raised a family, while building and owning the family business which was started in October 1965, Yakes Automotive Supply & Service, North Branch, Michigan.  Where you would always see Dorothy behind the counter, she kept the business in order with her sons until she passed.  Even from home, she still gave the orders, to manage that money, balance the books, doing taxes and paying the bills, dispatching the boys to the accidents and tow calls.  Dorothy enjoyed her time at home with her chickens, 2 dogs, and every color of roses one can find.  She was a baker by heart, making the boys lunch daily, the pies were made every Sunday with her daughter Diane, and she also enjoyed polka music.

Left the cherish her memories are her husband Leo, son Ron and Stephania Yakes, son Gary and Merry Yakes, daughter Diane and Ray Bennett, son Mark and Heather Yakes.

Grandchildren Leo and Vicki Yakes, Malisa, Claiton, Chelsea, Jeremy, Melanie, Keith, Kayla and Meagan, several great grandchildren, and close niece Cheryl Jasina.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, brothers and sister.

Cremation has taken place, In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be considered to Mid -Michigan Hospice or a hospice of your choice.  A private memorial service is being planned for a later date, Dorothy will be laid to rest at Wilmont Cemetery.
