Daniel “Pa” William Haight, 78, of Columbiaville, passed away on January 24, 2026. He was born on May 11, 1947 in Port Huron, Michigan to William F. and Matilda (Tyson) Haight and was the oldest of 12 siblings. He graduated from Lakeville High School in 1964. Dan worked at Oakdale, the Lapeer State Home for over 20 years, retiring from the Home when it closed in 1991. Dan married his wife, Donna on July 9, 1977.
Dan was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He loved the Lapeer Flea Market, garage sales and looking for antiques, and would always show up earlier than the opening time just to see if he could take a look around before the crowds. He loved picking up snacks and sweets at all the local grocery shops, which he would then promptly give away to anyone who visited him. No one left his house hungry. Dan also loved vinyl records, card games (tripoley was his favorite) and football. He often would go to his alma mater Lakeville’s home games and make $1 bets with his friends and relatives about the outcome of a Lion’s game. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Dan is survived by his children, Malissa (Jim) Hidalgo, Amanda (Nuuese) Passi, Jennifer (Tracy) Chase and Daniel Andrew (Cory Harvey) Haight; grandchildren, Danielle and Kaitlyn Hidalgo, Erik, Aaron and Brittany Passi, Kara Haight, Tracy (Amaylia) Chase, AJ and Georgia Haight; siblings, David Haight, Mary (Wally) Mahnke, Carol (Jim) Berry, Tom (Carolyn) Haight, Ben (Everlyn) Haight, Tilly (Darin) Williams, Joe Haight, and Richard Haight; many nieces and nephews. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, William and Matilda, his wife, Donna, his daughter Cassandrea, sisters, Judy Ritch, Jane Haight and Minne Arrand.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a gathering of family and friends on Saturday, February 28, 2026, 10:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home, 4216 Huron Street, North Branch, MI 48461 with a memorial service at 1:00 P.M. Celebrant Sue Shoemaker will officiate. A luncheon will follow the service with the location to be announced.
