Clayton "Art" Sutter Obituary

Clayton Arthur Sutter, age 77, a lifelong resident of North Branch passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the  Ann Arbor Veterans Affairs Health System.  Art was born on August 15, 1944 in Lapeer, the son of Clayton and Viola (Haslick) Sutter.  Art’s mother passed away when he was a young boy and he was raised by his grandmother. His dad later married Phyllis Brown, who became his step-mother. Art attended North Branch Area Schools and was a 1962 graduate.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from General Motors after 35 year. His true love was his farm. Art started his working day on the farm at sun up and worked until sun down.

Art married Judy Klauka at the First United Methodist Church.  He was a lifelong member of the North Branch First United Methodist Church and the North Branch American Legion. Art always enjoyed a good meal. He attended all the Klauka family holidays and events. Art enjoyed socializing with people and carrying on a good conversation.

 

Art is survived by his sisters-in-law, Joann Mason and Jean Holland, his brother-in-law, Robert (Joyce) Klauka; his cousins, Scott Sutter and Robert Bell; many nieces and nephews; his North Branch neighbors and friends.  Art is preceded in death by his wife, Judy, his parents, his step-mother, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Ruth Klauka and his brother-in-law, Herman Klauka.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to North Branch First United Methodist Church.

Visitation for Art will be on Friday, March 25, 2022, 4:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home. On Saturday, March 26, 2022, visitation will be 12:30 P.M.-1:30 P.M.at the First United Methodist Church with funeral service at 1:30 P.M. Pastor Ted Alkins will officiate. Art will be laid to rest next to his wife at West Deerfield Cemetery.  Military Honors will be conducted by the North Branch American Legion Post 457.
