Charline Lois (Harris) Myers, age 93 of North Branch, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022. Charline was a dedicated wife and homemaker for her family. Much of her life was spent raising and caring for her five children and supporting her husband, Delbert. Charline was born in Romeo, Michigan on January 17, 1929. She graduated as valedictorian of her class from North Branch High School, and later earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Central Michigan University. Charline taught at Graham Elementary near Alma and then briefly in North Branch where she taught elementary music. Charline loved music-ranging from her kids’ band concerts to gospel quartets to attending musicals. Charline had a beautiful soprano voice, and sang in the North Branch United Methodist Church and Lapeer County community choirs for years, and helped direct the children’s church choirs. She was sure to see her children were immersed in music, whether it was through piano lessons, the church choir or the school band.
Charline raised her children in the church-learning Bible stories, participating in youth group functions, and reaching out to people in need. Charline donated countless hours serving on various church committees to help minister to the people of the congregation and the community of North Branch. Charline was an avid student of the Bible, taking Bible enrichment classes, to enhance her understanding of her faith. She then passed this on through classes she would teach. Charline also loved to write. She would regularly write letters or send cards to her children and grandchildren where she would update everyone on events. Beyond the letters, she loved to write poetry. Struck with the inspiration to write, she would pick up a scrap of paper to write it down. Gifts for birthdays and Christmas were often accompanied by a personal poem that Charline had written to go along with the gifts or occasions. She was sure to remind her family the true meaning of Christmas with her Christmas poems. In the summer, Charline was an avid gardener. For years, she had a huge garden she maintained to help provide for the family, and all the kids got to help in the weeding process. In her later years, she poured her energies into her flower gardens that adorned the house. Each flower bed was beautiful and cared for meticulously. She loved sharing her knowledge of flowers, as well as helping family members transplant from her gardens to their homes, too.
Charline was preceded in death by her loving husband, Del, who served faithfully by her side for 73 years of marriage. Charline is survived by Daughter-Sherry and Dave Hoover of Hillman; Daughter-Carolyn Myers of Mayville; Son-Craig and Roxanne Myers of Croswell; Son-Phil and Crystal Myers of Sunbury, Ohio; Son-Dave and Jen Myers of Presque Isle, Michigan; ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
