Betty G. Lamiman 101 Plus Life Celebration!
January 16, 1923- August 20, 2024
Betty Gwyn Lamiman passed away at The United Hospice Service of Marlette Regional Hospital on Tuesday Morning, August 20, 2024.
Betty Lamiman was born January 16th 1923 on the Ryckman farm, 3 miles east of town at 5696 North Branch Road (M-90). Her parents, Ray & Martha Ryckman married November 19, 1917 in Cass City, Michigan and moved to the North Branch farm. Betty graduated from North Branch High School, then continued her education in cosmetology where she spent her working career.
On January 8, 1950 Betty married Floyd R. Lamiman (deceased) and moved to Davison, MI. There, she worked as a cosmetologist. Soon after, Betty & Floyd left Davison and moved to Ypsilanti for his 33-year career as Director of Housing at Eastern Michigan University. Betty has two children, Alice & Craig, (MaryAlice) two grandchildren Patrick (Bridget) and Kelly and two great grandchildren, Colin & Norah. Betty and Floyd returned to the family home in North Branch for retirement in 1984.
For the past few years, Betty has been in “Home Hospice” with support from a small group of very talented folks in the North Branch community: Crystal Nixon, Sally Moore, Jane Bates (deceased), Tom Bates (and daughters Dana & Vicky) and many family members, neighbors & friends.
Betty and the Lamiman family were asked to participate in a Centenarians (people aged >100 years old); research study at Boston University. The study is being conducted by multiple institutions nationwide (UCLA, Georgia State, Boston University and Albert Einstein College of Medicine) with the goal of understanding “biological and behavioral reasons why centenarians delay or escape age-related diseases” and “identifying novel strategies and treatments that will help other people do the same.
Betty enjoyed quilting, gardening and visiting her family. She was an avid supporter of the Salvation Army and the United Methodist Church in North Branch.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the charity of your choice or The Salvation Army which Betty & Floyd participated in the Ypsilanti branch for over 25 years!
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 AM, Sunday, November 17, 2024, at First United Methodist Church, North Branch. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Maple Grove Cemetery.
