Arthur J. “Butch” Podvin, age 76, a lifelong resident of North Branch passed away on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at his home with his family at his side. Butch was born on September 30, 1944, in North Branch, MI, the youngest child of Arthur J. and Myrtle (Bazille) Podvin. He attended North Branch Area Schools and was a 1962 graduate. Butch married Allona Barck on February 24, 1968 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in North Branch. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Butch worked as a heavy equipment operator for Genesee Bay Construction. He retired from Local 324 Operating Engineers after 30 years of service. Butch enjoyed riding horses, telling tall tales, watching wilderness from his barn and socializing. He was a captain on the North Branch Fire Department for over 10 years and also a 50 year member of the North Branch American Legion Post 457. He will be greatly missed.
Butch is survived by his wife, Allona; his children,Lora (Terry) Seaman, Art Podvin, Wade (Shari) Podvin and Stacy Podvin; his 13 grandchildren; his 3 great-grandchildren; his sister Maxine Garwolds; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter-in-law, Kathy Podvin; his brother, Donald Podvin and his sisters, DeVona Bradley and Marcedes Rogers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to North Branch American Legion Post #457, North Branch Fire Department or McLaren Hospice.
The family will be present for visitation on Monday, May 17, 11:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M. at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Scripture Service to follow at 5:00 P.M. Deacon Peter Lynch will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by the North Branch American Legion Post 457.
Per Butch’s wishes cremation will take place at a later date.
