Samuel "Sam" Allen Hanna Jr.

Samuel “Sam” A. Hanna Jr age 77, of North Branch, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2018 at Covenant Health Care, Saginaw. Sam was born on December 7, 1940 in Atlas Twp, Michigan to Samuel A and Vivian Mildred (Scott) Hanna Sr.  Sam attended Goodrich and Lapeer School District and he was proud to receive his GED in North Branch High School.  Sam proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Sam retired from GM and he owned and operated Sam’s Place in North Branch.

Sam was a life Member and Past Worshipful Master of the North Branch Masonic Lodge Post # 312, Past High Priest of the Royal Arch Post #138, Life Member Supreme Council of Flint, Life Member of Bay City Consistory 32nd Degree, Charter and Life Member and Past Exulted Ruler 4 times for the Lapeer Area Elks Post #2567, Life  Member of Mayville Eagles Post # 4099, Charter Member and Past Governor of Lapeer Moose Post # 2433, Charter Member and Past President of Men’s Auxiliary for Lapeer VFW Post # 4139, Member of the North Branch American Legion Post # 457, Member of the Lapeer County Voiture Forty and Eight and chairman of the board of the North Branch fishing club, “Stinky said so”.

Sam was a kind person and always willing to help others when the need arose.  He was infamous for his cute growl when flirting with the ladies.   

Sam is survived by the mother of his children and good friend, Bonnie Hanna; daughter, Kristine (Karl) Vielhaber and son, Wade (Kelly) Hanna; sister, Mary (Ed) Gark; sisters-in-law, Sandra Hanna and Sally Hanna; granddaughters, Kathryn and Audrey Hanna, step-grandsons, Kenny Vielhaber and Austin and Colby Polutanovich, many nieces and nephews and good friends, Billy Fricke and Nancy Myers.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gladyce; brothers, John and James; 2 nieces, Morgan and Barbara.

The family would like to thank Mike, Karen, and Tyler Kohler and Jake, Nicky and Elliot Hutchinson for all their special care.

The family will be present for visitation on Thursday, October 18, 2018 from 12 to 8. A Forty and Eight Service at 2:00 PM and a Masonic Service at 7:00 PM all at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home and on Friday, October 19, 2018 from 10 to 11 AM with the Funeral Service at 11:00 at the North Branch Wesleyan Church.  Pastors Roger Keur and Peter Damaska will officiate.  Sam will be buried with his family in North Branch Westlawn Cemetery.  Military Honors will be conducted by the North Branch Legion Post # 457.

Sam always said “ If you can’t go out and have a good time you might as well stay home.” and “ The Biggest disappointment could never find a pie plate that held more than 4 pieces.”
