Fred Crawford, age 86, lifelong resident of North Branch passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Marlette Hospice Service of Marlette Regional Hospital.  Fred was born February 10, 1931 in North Branch, the son of Harold and Thelma (Castle) Crawford. Fred graduated from North Branch High School in 1949.  On August 16, 1952 he married Josephine Minkstin in North Branch, she preceded him in death in 2010. Fred proudly served his country in the U. S. Army from 1951 to 1953 in the 82nd Airborne Infantry.  Fred was a member of the North Branch Legion Post #457.  Fred retired from General Motors in Skilled Trades with 32 years of service.  He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Association.  Fred was an avid blood donor over his lifetime donating several gallons for those in need.  Fred enjoyed fishing and hunting with his sons and grandsons.  He also liked to play cards, and Fred was a handyman, always helping family and friends.  Fred especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

 

Fred is survived by his daughter, Ann (Richard) Leonard of North Branch; sons, Tony (Joanne) of Attica and Ed (Sally) of Lapeer; 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lenora Jambor of Okemos; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Josephine; brothers, Jack, and Bobby.

Memorials may be made to the United Hospice Service of Marlette.

 

The family will be present for visitation on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 2 to 8 PM and Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 10 to 11 AM, with the Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 AM all at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home.  Rev. Ron Hutchinson will officiate.  Fred will be laid to rest next to his wife, Josephine in Westlawn Cemetery.  Military Honors will be performed by the North Branch American Legion Post #457.
