Douglas E. Andersen, age 84, from Mancelona, MI, formally from Fostoria, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2019 at the Eden Center in Kalkaska, MI. Douglas was born on May 27, 1935 in Flint, MI, the son of Glenn Julius and Beatrice Elzoria (Snyder) Andersen. He grew up in the Fostoria area. Douglas attended Deerfield School and North Branch Area Schools. Douglas married Marilyn Jean Brunett on November 26, 1960 in Fostoria, MI. Douglas proudly served in the U.S. Army.
He retired from General Motors, AC Spark Plug Division. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and cards.
Douglas is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Jean); children, Kathy (Ronald) Respecki, Kimberlie (Vince) McNish, Todd (Alison) Andersen and Tim Andersen; sisters, Vivian Watt and Elzoria Morgan; grandchildren, Adam & Nicholas Respecki, Danielle & Eric Hopkins, Patty, Emily, & Erin Andersen, Selena Pruitt-Andersen; great-grandchildren, Cameron Harvitt, Emmitt Hopkins, Madison Respecki, Carter Rupe and Blake McNish. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Derwood, Alfred (Aleethon), Ivan; infant sister, Eva and grandson, Bradly Respecki.
Memorial may be directed to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital.
Visitation for Douglas will be Sunday, June 23, 2019, 4:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at Blackburn Chapel. On Monday, June 24, 2019, visitation will be 10:00 A.M.-11:00A.M. with funeral service to follow at 11:00 A.M. at Blackburn Chapel. Deacon Joseph Schierlinger will be officiating. Burial will be in West Deerfield Cemetery, Fostoria, MI. Military honors will be conducted by the North Branch American Legion Post 457.
