John Dwyer, age 88, of North Branch died Sunday, July 25, 2010 at Brian’s House in Davison.

John was born September 21, 1921 in Rich Township, Michigan, the son of Daniel W. and Rose M. (McGuire) Dwyer. John was a dairy farmer on the homestead and he attended Dodds Country School. John was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

John is survived by his sister Rosemary Malcolm of Connecticut, and 33 nieces and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and the following sisters and brothers; Mary Ellen Henne, Catherine Oberlee, William Dwyer, Thomas Dwyer, Grace LaBelle, Daniel Lawrence Dwyer, and 2 nephews and 1 niece.

Memorials may be made to the Casa Maria.

The family will be present for visitation on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 from 5 to 8 at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home and on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 from 10 to 11 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic with the funeral mass to follow. Fr. Richard Tremel will officiate. Burial will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, North Branch.

Dean Johnson, age 38 of Lapeer died from results of injuries from a motorcycle accident on Saturday, July 10, 2010. Dean was born in Lapeer, MI., the son of Max and Geneva (Cole) Johnson.

Dean grew up in North Branch and graduated from North Branch High School in 1990 and he received his Associates from Baker College in Flint. Dean was employed with Dow Automotive in Auburn Hills as a R & D Technician. Dean was of the Baptist Faith. He was an avid Sportsman, and he enjoyed camping, hiking, hunting, and fishing with his children, his children were his life.

Left to cherish his memory are his children; Ashley, Rachael, and Gabriel Johnson all of Lapeer, parents Max and Geneva Johnson of Otter Lake, sister Beverly (George) Paetsch of Lapeer, brother Kenneth and (RuthAnn) Johnson of North Branch, sister Lorraine (Scott) Swoish of North Branch, sister Ronda (Kenneth) Wickham of Midland, brother Kevin Johnson of South Carolina, several nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends and Dean had many great-nieces and great- nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Keith in 1982 and grandparents; Robert and Caroline Johnson and John and Bertha Cole.

The family will be present for visitation on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 from 5 to 8 at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home and on Wednesday, from 10 to 11 at SS. Peter and Paul Church in North Branch with the funeral to folow.  Pastor Keith Mead will officiate. Burial will be in West Deerfield Cemetery in Fostoria.

Jeffrey Davenport, age 40 of Davison (formerly of Columbiaville) passed away Saturday, July 3, 2010 unexpectedly, the son of Linda and David Davenport. He was born in Flint, Michigan.

Jeffrey graduated from Lapeer West in 1987 and continued his education at the University of Michigan-Flint and Northern Michigan University in Marquette. He was employed with Lapeer Metal for 15 years. Jeffrey enjoyed Karate and was a member of the Davison Karate Club. He also enjoyed roller blading, biking, fishing, he was very fluent in speaking Spanish, and he was a movie enthusiast.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents; Linda and David Davenport of North Branch, sister Carrie (Jerry) Schlaud of North Branch, brother Michael (Sharon) Davenport of Goodrich, nephews and nieces; Emily, Alissa, Jacob and Brenna Schlaud, and Joshua and Kennedy Davenport.

Lee Gibbs, age 67 of North Branch (formerly of Rochester) died June 21, 2010. Lee was born February 8, 1942 in Kingston, Tennessee, the son of James and Rosa (Morgan) Gibbs.
Lee was a farmer and enjoyed harness racing and taking care of horses and watching old western movies.

He is survived by sons; Norman Joseph Zayler of Columbiaville, Jeff Zayler of Davison, and Robert Zayler of Lake Orion and Ken Zayler of Alabama, sisters; Debbie Randal of Japan, and Betty Overcashier of Northville, MI., brothers; David Gibbs and Robert Gibbs of Rochester, 8 grandchildren and a special friend and companion, Lindy Pasternak of North Branch.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Frank.

There will be a memorial service 11:00 AM, Monday, June 28th at North Branch United Methodist Church. Rev. Ronald Hutchinson officiated.

Donna Law, age 75 of North Branch died June 4, 2010 at Lapeer Regional Medical Center. Donna was born February 22, 1935 in Sandusky, MI. She is the daughter of Lawrence and May (McCarty) Carley. Donna’s father passed away when she was only 5 years old. She was then raised and cared for by her loving step-father, Syrenus Thrall. Donna grew up in Sandusky and graduated from Sandusky High School.

On June 24, 1961 she married John Law in the North Branch United Methodist Church. Donna was a lifetime member of North Branch United Methodist Church. Donna was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, doing art work and painting. She was a fabulous cook who loved spending time with her family.

Donna is survived by: daughter, Anne (Daniel) Kennedy of Pennsylvania; sons, Joseph (Koliene) Law of North Branch and Douglas Law of Marlette; brothers, Richard (Donna) Carley of Fairview, MI and William (Rosemary) Carley of Indiana; sister-in-law, Ellen (Ed) Buckner of Clifford; grandchildren, Calvin, Kathleen and Patrick Kennedy and Kaliene, John and Carley Law; many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Donna’s loving care giver, Connie Sirois.
Donna is preceded in death by: her parents, husband, John in 2006, and brother, Keith Carley.

Terry Lee Shephard, age 41, of North Branch died Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at his home. Terry was born February 26, 1969 in Lapeer, MI. He is the son of Dale and Glennie (Green) Shephard. Terry grew up in North Branch and graduated from North Branch in 1987. Terry enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his friends.

Terry is survived by his parents, Dale and Glennie Shephard of North Branch; grandmother, Olive Shephard of Brown City; sister, Heidi Cousins and brother-in-law Bob Cousins of Fostoria; brother, Wayne Shephard of Lapeer; nephews, Zachary and Isaac; niece, Taylor; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Terry is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ronald Shephard and Bob and Nelda Green.

Family will be present for visitation on Friday, June 4th from 5-8pm and Saturday, June 5th from 9-10am at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home. Nancy "Nan" L. Fricke, age 88 of North Branch passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at her home in the loving care of her family. Nan was born on August 26, 1921 in North Branch, the daughter of Stanley and Anabel (Wilson) Blackburn.

She graduated from North Branch High School with her husband, Wilmer in 1938. Nan attended Business College in Grand Rapids and Heany Business School in Kalamazoo. On October 4, 1941 she married Wilmer Fricke in Imlay City, Michigan. Nan retired after 30 years as a secretary for the North Branch School District and secretary for the superintendent of schools. She helped her husband with the family business, Blackburn Funeral Home in North Branch. Nan was a life time member of the North Branch United Methodist Church and she was the oldest member of the North Branch American Legion Auxiliary. Nothing gave her more pleasure than spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons; Bill, Stanley "Bub", and Steven, daughter Nancy "Sis " Myers all of North Branch, grandchildren; Lee Myers and Danele Myers, Jon (Renee) Fricke, Zachery ( Kristin) Fricke, Victoria (Alan) Ellison, great-grandchildren; Lucy, Oliver and Annika Fricke, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wilmer in 1986, son Jon in 1943, brother Stanley was killed in action in 1945 during WW II, and sister Elizabeth (Ritter) Westen in 2000.

Memorials may be made to the North Branch United Methodist Church, the North Branch Emergency Aid or the North Branch American Legion.

Loreina Adkins, age 73 of North Branch died Monday, May 24, 2010 at Lapeer Regional Medical Center. Loreina was born August 30, 1936 in Harold Kentucky, the daughter of Anthony and Nannie (Jones) Newsome.
On June 26, 1952 she married Emit Adkins in Justell, Kentucky. Loreina was a member of the Lapeer Church of Christ for many years. She was a beloved mother and grandmother who enjoyed her family very much.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Emit, daughters; Deborah (Eugene) Caldwell, of Lapeer, Lora (Dennis) Kalbfleisch of Brown City, son, Michael Adkins (Robin) of North Branch, 3 granddaughters; Carmen (Jeffrey) Welch, Lisa (Christopher) Curtis, Abby Kalbfleisch, 1 great-granddaughter, Catherine Welch, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters.

Raffaela "Faye" Rappuhn, age 88 of Clifford died Friday, May 21, 2010 at Marlette United Hospice. Faye was born November 4, 1921 in Harrison County, West Virginia. She was the daughter of Domenic and Christina "Scott" Buono.

Faye married Wayne Rappuhn on October 29, 1982 in Flint, Michigan. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Faye was a realtor for 15 years for Osentoski Real Estate in Caro, Michigan. Before Faye started selling real estate she was employed by Lapeer Metal Products for many years, also she was a Avon Representive. Faye enjoyed going to garage sales.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Wayne, brother Augustine (Hilda) Buono, 2 grandchildren; Tammy and Todd Svoboda, 1 great-grandchild Cassidy Verdier, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Robert, daughter Marilyn, and husband Jerry.

Janis Mae Beebe, age 78 of Mayville died May 19, 2010 at Fisher Senior Care and Rehab. Center. She was born May 27, 1931 in Detroit, the daughter of Herman and Velda Almas.

Janis graduated from Clifford High School. She retired after 20 years as a semi-truck driver. She was a member of the Mayville Eagles Auxiliary #4099, and she enjoyed the Detroit Tigers, gardening and her cat Blue.

She is survived by her sons; Randy Stevens of Arnold, Maryland, Rob (Kim) Stevens of Columbiaville, and Ron (Kelly) Stevens of Fostoria, brother Vernon Almas, 2 grandchildren Dustin and Nick Stevens, 1 great-grandchild Asia Franzel, several nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Tom and sister Barbara.

Donald Mroz, age 44, of North Branch died Sunday, May 9, 2010 at Lapeer Regional Medical Center. Don was born August 24, 1965 in Detroit, MI, the son of Donald and Mary (Long) Mroz.

He graduated from Lapeer East, Class of 1984 and he was a self-employed painter, painting tractors, cars and heavy equipment. Don enjoyed NASCAR, snowmobiling and watching hockey.

He is survived by his parents; Donald and Mary Mroz of North Branch, sister Ann Marie Montgomery of Elba and brother Scott (Melissa) Mroz of North Branch, 2 nieces; Whitney and Haley, 3 nephews; Jake, Scott and Rickey, 1 grandniece Ava.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

The family will be present for a gathering on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 from 1 to 2 with a Memorial Service at 2:00 PM to follow at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home. Rev. Ronald Hutchinson will officiate. Cremation has taken place.

Dennis V. Cichoracki Sr. passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday April 13, 2010 after a courageous battle against lung cancer.He was born May 24, 1932 in Utica, MI to Victor and Mabel (Dennis) Cichoracki. Dennis spent most of his life in the North Branch area. During the Korean Conflict, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. On January 15, 1955, he married his dear and devoted wife, Janet Johnson. For nearly 30 years, Dennis worked at the Bostick Foundry and then several years at Washakie Golf Course. Dennis was deeply passionate about his family, gardening, farming, and refurbishing John Deere tractors. As a member of several John Deere clubs, he drove his tractors in numerous parades and was often awarded for his skill and achievements. Dennis was many things to many people. He will be remembered as: a mechanic, a machinist, a carpenter, a middle of the night repairman, the fixer of anything broken, a mentor and a friend. He was a loyal Detroit Tiger and Red Wing fan to the very end!

He is survived by wife, Janet; Daughters Denise (Rick) Schlaud of North Branch and Patricia (Roy) Woodward of Lapeer; Sons Dennis Jr. (Leona) Cichoracki of Boyne Falls, and Robin (Liz) Cichoracki of North Branch; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren to whom he was a hero and one of the greatest men ever known and countless friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Bob, infant daughter Mary Beth, In-laws Bob and Caroline Johnson, and brother-in-law E.J. Johnson

Joan McDonnell-Turner (Beatty), age 66 of Daytona Beach, Fl. (formerly of North Branch, MI.) died March 27, 2010 at Florida Memorial Hospital in Ormond Beach. Joan was born June 17, 1943 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the daughter of John and Nora McDonnell.

On December 15, 1987 she married John E. Turner of North Branch, Michigan. Joan owned Coachlight Hairstylist in North Branch until 1999 and managed several Premier Salons throughout Oakland County.

Joan is survived by her husband John E. Turner and five daughters; Renee Beatty and Mark Barnes of Attica, Karen C. Beatty of Beverly Hills, Lynne and Tony Catoggio of Palm Coast, FL., Mara and Frank Berishaj of New Balitmore, and Tara A. Beatty of Romeo and their father Ronald G. Beatty, two step-daughters; Lisa Wetherford of North Branch and Lori Milam of Lapeer, brother John McDonnell of North Branch and seven grandchildren; Ryan, Nick, Josh, Anthony, Gina, Zachary and Ava.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents John and Nora McDonnell.

Verial Vielhaber, age 84 of North Branch, died Monday, March 15, 2010 at the Marlette Extended Care Facility. Verial was born October 29, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan. She was the daughter of Albert and Cecille (St. Louis) Kimpe.

Verial married Lawrence Vielhaber in October, 1951. He preceded her in death in 1987. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Verial enjoyed fabric painting, baking bread, making candy, cooking and canning.
She is survived by her brother Albert (Dolores) Kimpe of New Haven and sister Joanne Luther of St. Clair Shores and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 18, 2010 from 2 to 8 with a Rosary at 7:00 PM, at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home. Friday, March 19, 2010 Verial will lie in state at SS. Peter and Paul Church from 10 to 11 with the mass to follow at 11:00 PM. Burial will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, North Branch. Fr. Richard Treml will officiate.

Marvin Floyd Hallead, age 80, of North Branch died Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Lapeer Regional Medical Center.  Marvin was born to Walter and Hazel Hallead August 20, 1929. He lived and worked in this area all his life.

In June of 1951 he married Kathleen Bowman of North Branch. They enjoyed 58 years together. Marvin worked for the North Branch Elevator Co. For 20 years. He also worked for North-Side Co-op Milk Co. And 14 years for the North Branch Schools, retiring in 1991.  He enjoyed cutting wood, trimming trees and mowing lawns; just keeping busy in general.

He is survived by his wife Kathleen, three sons; Bruce and Pam of Columbiaville, Paul and Cindy of North Branch and Kenneth of North Branch, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one brother-in-law, several nieces and nephews.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, Frank Hallead, brother Jim, sister Shirley, sister-in-law Ava and daughter-in-law Susan.

In following Marvin’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
A Memorial Service will be 3:00 PM, Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home, with a gathering of family and friends from 1 to 3. Rev. Ronald Hutchinson will officiate.

Elaine "Lanie" Schmidt, age 70 died Friday, February 26, 2010 at her home. Lanie was born January 26, 1940 in Houston, Texas, the daughter of Frank and LaLa "Rawley" Williams, Jr.  Lanie grew up in Houston, Texas and graduated in 1958. She received her Bachelors Degree from UCLA in nursing, and worked at UCLA Medical Center for a while. On January 19, 1963 she married Ken Schmidt.

Lanie enjoyed traveling to participate in Historical Re-enactment Groups, and the Beletre Group. She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution, and the Wheeling Team 457. She also enjoyed quilting, spinning, weaving, needlepoint, tanning hides and shooting air rifles.

She is survived by her husband Ken, daughter Shelby Gail Norman of Rome, New York, and son K. Morgan (Brenda) Schmidt of St. Clair Shores, 5 sisters, 1 brother and 2 grandsons; Josh and Dakota.  She was preceded in death by her father and a grandson.  Cremation has taken place.

Alice Irene Lott, age 90 of Flint, MI., was born March 19, 1919 in Flint, Michigan. She was received into the presence of Jesus Christ her Lord, February 23, 2010.

Alice was the mother of two sons; David (Donna) Lott of Columbiaville and Robert (Darlene ) Lott of Fostoria, MI. She had five grandchildren; Carrie J. (Chris) Seeley of Hudsonville, MI., Dana S. (John) Strong of Grand Blanc, MI., Joshua (Sara) Lott, Dalton, Minnosota, Josie A. (Scott) Baldree of Fort Worth, Texas, and Jared P. Lott of Fostoria, MI., 10 great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-laws; Geraldine Johnson and Marjorie Needham and many nieces and nephews.
Alice was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
She was a longtime member of the North Baptist Church, Flint, MI.

The family will receive guests from 9:00 am to 11:00 am with the funeral service immediately following at 11:00 am, on Friday, February 26, 2010 at the North Baptist Church, 4004 Lennon Road, Flint, MI. 48507. Rev. Dr. Todd Meece will officiate. Interment will be at Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint, MI.

Barbara Rose Mitchell, age 92, of Lapeer, formerly of North Branch died Saturday, January 23, 2010 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Barbara was born May 25, 1917 in Shiawasee County, Michigan.

Barbara grew up in Swartz Creek area and graduated from Mary Crapo High School in 1934.

On August 25, 1945 she married Lloyd Mitchell. He preceded her in death in 1998.

She was a member of the Fostoria Baptist Church and was attending Grace Baptist Church in Lapeer. Barbara made baby blankets with crocheted edges for all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends and members of her church. She would make doughnuts for the Red Cross Blood Mobile. Her family and grandchildren were very important part of her life.

She is survived by her daughters; Margaret (Denton) Flahault of Indiana, Mary (Dr. Susumu Inoue) Mitchell-Beren of Swartz Creek, Patricia (Elmer) Harvey of Lapeer and Annette (Johnny) DesJardins of North Carolina, son, Robert (Cindy) Mitchell of North Branch, sisters; Julia Lengyel of Cadillac, MI., and Anne Bartlett of Lincoln Nebraska, sisters-in-law; Emma Lengyel of Swartz Creek and Ella Mae Mitchell of Flint, 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren with 2 great-grandsons soon to be born and many nephews and nieces.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, grandson Joshua, many sisters and brothers.

There will be a memorial service at 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home. From 9 to 10 there will be a gathering for friends and family. Pastor David Yelland and Pastor Raymond Oliver will officiate. Cremation has taken place.

Betty Lou Hennessey, age 70 of Lapeer died Friday, January 8, 2010. Betty was born August 4, 1939 in North Branch. She was the daughter of Kenneth J. And Ida (Reynolds) Goss. Betty graduated from North Branch High School in 1956. On Sept. 30, 1957 she married Tom Hennessey. Florence Margaret Minkstein, age 87 of North Branch died January 4, 2010 in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Florence was born July 7, 1922 in Pontiac Twp., MI. She was the daughter of Austin and Marguerite (Calkins) Rossman. She grew up in Pontiac, MI and attended school at Pontiac and North Branch. She graduated from North Branch High School class of 1939.
On November 29, 1940 she married Edward Minkstein in North Branch, MI. Florence was a homemaker. She attended the North Branch First United Methodist Church of North Branch. Florence was a member of the North Branch Eastern Stars #149 and the North Branch Sno-Byrds. Florence enjoyed gardening, cooking, birdwatching and spending time with her family.

Left to cherish her memory are husband, Edward; daughters, Jeanie (James) Stevenson, Anita (Dennis) Pastor and Pamela (Les) Frampton; sister, Helen Smith all of North Branch; grandchildren, Lance (girlfriend, Dana) Walker, Zane (Tracey) Walker, Ty (Kristy) Walker, Shonda (Jim) Gleeson, Shelli (Darrin) Greschaw, Amy (Joe) Kozlowski and Brian Stevenson; great-grandchildren, Olivia Walker, Madison and Preston Walker, Alyssa and Austin Walker, Maelin Gleeson, Lauren, Drew, Adrienne, and Josie Greschaw, Max and Alex Kozlowski, and Blaine and Erica Stevenson; and many nieces and nephews. Beverly LaFave, age 81, of North Branch, died Sunday, December 20, 2009 at Lapeer Regional Medical Center. Beverly was born March 29, 1928 in Faribault, Minnesota, the daughter of Verle and Millie (Eire) Shepard. On April 6, 1950 she married Dale LaFave in Detroit, MI. He preceded her in death in May 2007. Bev was a member of the North Branch Eastern Stars #149. She enjoyed traveling, camping, working on crafts and entertaining friends and family on her swing at her home.

Left to cherish her memory are daughters; Diane (Richard) White, Denise (Tom) Patrick, son Leonard LaFave, 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, sister Bonnie Powell and sisters-in-law; Patty Shepard, Tillie LaFave, and Darlene LaFave, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale, sisters; Peggy Shirley, Verta McKay, Ione Stone, and brothers; Chad Shepard, and Gary Shepard.

Pauline Deshetsky age 93, of North Branch died Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at her home in the loving care of her family. Pauline was born February 25, 1916 in Arlee, Saskatchewan, Canada, she was the daughter of Jno and Kathryn Karpow. Pauline married John Deshetsky on March 11, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan. Pauline was a busy homemaker taking care of her family and she was known as “Grandma Cooker” by many.

Pauline was a member of the North Branch First Baptist Church and she was a Past Member of the Russian Ukranian Baptist Church of Detroit. Our memories of Pauline will be greatly cherished by her family and friends. Son Ralph (Kathleen) Deshetsky of North Branch, daughters; Carol ( Pastor Jim) Patrick of Moline, IL., and Donna ( Pastor Don) Bennett of Saginaw,12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Pauline was preceded in death by her husband John Deshetsky in Nov. 1989, grandson Benjamin Bennett in June 1984 and 13 siblings.

Mark Grimes, age 56, of North Branch, died suddenly on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Lapeer Regional Medical Center. Mark was born October 9, 1953 in Flint, Michigan, the son of John and Beverly (FitzGerald) Grimes. He grew up in Vassar and attended school there. He married Carol Hallock on March 6, 1980 in Lapeer.

Mark was the President/Owner of Precision Machining Co. since 1986.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Carol, daughters; Karen (Ken) Koos of Silverwood, and Pam Grimes of North Branch, parents; Bev Laurimore of Fostoria and John Grimes of Arizona, a very special granddaughter; Faith, sisters; Denise (Todd) Bellamy of Caseville, Janice (Blacke) Robichaux of Louisiana,Rachael (Matt) Karr of Davison, brothers; Robert Laurimore of Fostoria, Michael (Roxanne) Grimes of North Branch and John (Laura) Grimes of Ferndale many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Duane M. Laur, age 78 of North Branch died Saturday, November 21, 2009 at McLaren Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Duane was born November 23, 1930 in the son of Francis and Edith (Arndt) Laur. He grew up in North Branch and graduated from North Branch High School. He attended Michigan State College. On August 3, 1957 he married Ruth Ann O’Neill in the North Branch United Methodist Church. Duane was a life-long beef and crop farmer. He attended North Branch United Methodist Church and was a member for over 50 years where he sang in the choir. He was a member of Farm Bureau, Farmland Preservation and a former member of the Deerfield Township Planning Commission.
Duane will be lovingly missed by his six children: Diane and husband Don Kennedy of Lapeer, William and wife Kim Laur of North Branch, Donna and husband Mike Seeley of Fenton, Dan and wife Marlena Laur of North Branch, Doris and husband David Hill of North Branch, and Dale and wife Patty Laur of North Branch; sister: Marjorie Albrecht of North Branch; special friend, Mary Barber of Columbiaville; 18 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Duane is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann in 1995; his brother, William and his sister, Elaine.

Lucille Fricke, age 89 of North Branch died Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Lucille was born October 7, 1920 in Detroit, MI. the daughter of John Stanley and Nellie Mae (Burnside) Rosolowski. Lucille spent most of her life in North Branch and attended school there. On April 20, 1938 she married Edward E. Fricke in Lapeer. Lucille attended SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in North Branch. Lucille was proud to have lived to see the 5th generation of the Fricke-Ragatz family. She enjoyed BINGO and playing cards. She was a loving care giver to many. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Lucille will be missed by her daughter, Jean (Walter) Ragatz of North Branch, son, Francis (Judith) Fricke of Kingston, 5 granddaughters, 4 grandsons, 5 great-granddaughters, 7 great-grandsons, 1 great-great-grandson and her God child, Suzanne. Lucille is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Edward; grandsons: Randy Joliceour, John Terranova and Walter Ragatz; siblings: Vincent Ross, Floyd Ross, Blanch Thompson, Daloris Tashnier, Nellie Moore and Edsel Ross.

Pauline Kula, age 85, of North Branch died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009 at the Marlette United Hospice. She was born on October 19, 1924 the daughter of George and Cecilia (Schmitt) Wendling.Pauline and Carl Robinet were united in marriage on May 18, 1946. They made their home in Kings Mill, Michigan for many years with their family, before moving to the Wendling family homestead on Summers Road. Pauline enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens, and helping on the farm. She had a special talent of writing short stories and articles for local newspapers. She worked at Lapeer General Hospital in the Housekeeping Department and was a care giver and companion for many seniors later in her life. She also volunteered her time at the Marlette Extended Care Facility mending the resident’s clothing. Pauline was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she was a member of the choir and Lector.After the death of Carl Robinet on March 21, 1983, Pauline married Paul Kreiner on August 9, 1991, Paul died February 2, 1992. She married Walter Kula, on May 1, 1994, and he died on Sept. 11, 2005.

She is survived by daughter Rose Marie (David) Shoemaker of Marlette, sons; George (Elaine) of Attica, William and Thomas of North Branch, sister Rita Zmudka of Dearborn and brother-in-law Louis Robinet of North Branch, grandchildren; Kevin, Christine, and Keith and Deanna, David Jr., and Daniel, many step-children and their families and many nieces and nephews.Pauline was preceded in death by her husbands, and daughter Cecilia.

The family will be present on Sunday, November 15, 2009 from 6 to 8, Monday, November 16, 2009 from 1 to 8 with a Rosary at 4:00 pm, and Tuesday, she will lie in state from 10 to 11 at St. Mary’s Church with the funeral mass to follow. Ernest Sommer, age 91 of Midland passed away Saturday, November 7, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Ernie was born October 3, 1918 in Levering, MI. He was the son of Robert and Myrtle (Srigley) Sommer.On July 23, 1944 he married Doris Evelyn Eckel in Metamora, MI. Ernie retired from GM with 30 years of service. He enjoyed the Methodist Men Club. Ernie had a passion for fishing and fishing trips.

Ernie will be lovingly missed by his sons, Larry (Teresa) Sommer of Midland and Robert (Judy) Sommer of Imlay City; daughter, Sharon Sommer of Verona, WI; brother, Bill Sommer of Grand Rapids; 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Ernie is preceded in death by his wife, Doris in 1987.

Edwin "Jay" McCardle, age 82 of Silverwood died Thursday, November 5, 2009 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Jay was born January 19, 1927 in Rich Twp., MI. Jay is the son of James and Mildred (Smith) McCardle. Jay attended school at Pontiac Northern and grew up in Rich Twp. On August 17, 1946 he married Frances Rowe in the North Branch United Methodist Church. Jay served his country proudly in the Navy and Marines. After his time in the service, Jay worked for the Lapeer County Road Commission and retired with 33 years of service. He was also a dairy farmer for many years. He attended the Silverwood United Methodist Church in Silverwood. Jay was a member of the Masonic Lodge in North Branch, as well as the North Branch American Legion. Jay loved hunting, fishing, and camping.

Jay will be lovingly missed by his wife, Frances of Silverwood; sons, Pat and Tim(Annette) of Silverwood; nephews, James Fulford of CA. and Dale McCardle of Gladwin; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Clifford and Ernest, and sister Lois.

Lora Luella Bridger, age 89 of North Branch died Wednesday, October 21, 2009 in Lapeer. She was born January 11, 1920 in Dexter, Missouri to Mancil and Emma (Patterson) Barrett. She married Ack Bridger April 10, 1935 in Missouri and moved to Michigan in 1950. Lora was a homemaker who loved to quilt. Her favorite thing was spending time with her family and making Sunday dinners.

Lora will be lovingly missed by her children, Arthur (Donna) of Fl., Rodger (Karen) of Clarkston, Phillip (Gloria) of North Branch, Brenda (Tom) Cox of Clarkston, Iris (Bob) Howland of North Branch and Rodney (Bonnie) of North Branch; 17 Grandchildren; 40 Great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Wright of Illinois and Barbara Costello of Missouri; many nieces and nephews. Lora is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ack Bridger in 2000, 4 brothers and 1 sister.

Luceine "Lou"StalkerJr, age 56, died October 9, 2009 at Lapeer Regional Medical Center. Lou was born on September 22, 1953 in Mt. Clemens, MI to Luceine Sr & Alice(Hewitt) Stalker. He moved to North Branch in 1968 and graduated from North Branch High School in 1971. On August 18, 1972 he married Judy Swoish at St Mary’s Church in Burnside. Lou worked as a carpenter for 30 years. He loved woodworking, snowmobiling, bowling, and spending time with his family and friends. Lou was a volunteer EMT in Lapeer County for many years.

Lou will be lovingly missed by his wife Judy, his daughter Caneda(Will) Stalker Highsmith of Arizona, his sons; Nathan(Rachel) Stalker of Lapeer, Rodney Stalker of Lapeer, Jon(fiancé Amber Gibson) Stalker of Lapeer, and Timothy Stalker of Arizona; grandchildren Sylvia, Thomas, and Ryland; brother Tommy(Terrie) Stalker of Imlay City; sister Terry(Fred) Neal of Arizona; mother-in-law Blanche Swoish, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law C.J Swoish.

Bonnie Crawford, age 77, On October 6, 2009 unexpectedly went with the Lord to join her beloved husband Jack. , Bonnie was, born June 22, 1932. They were united in marriage July 12, 1952. He preceded her in death in 1999. She was greatly loved and will be sadly missed by her daughters and sons-in-law Jackie and Doug Stevens and Dawn and David Eisenhauer. 

Bonnie’s greatest love was spending time with her four grandchildren and their loved ones. Jennifer and Steve Moring, Doug and Julie Stevens, Jami Wilson and Troy McIntosh, David and Trudy Eisenhauer.  Her greatest pride and joy were her 7 great-grandchildren, Ashley Stevens, Chloe Gayle, Haley Wilson, Kevin Wilson, Adriana Stevens, Ethan Eisenhauer and Clay Moring. Bonnie was also anticipating the birth of a new great-grandchild late October. She leaves behind family and friends including her best friend Bessie, her dog.

There will be a Memorial Service 3:00, Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home. The family will be present to greet friends from 1 to 3.

Joanne Miller, age 72 of Fostoria died September 20, 2009 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Joanne was born May 30, 1937 in Flint, MI to Sam and Helen( )Nokovich. She grew up in Burton and graduated from Lapeer West High School. On November 17, 1961 she married Nelson Miller in Grand Blanc. Joanne worked for Gestamp North American Plant in Lapeer for about 40 years before retiring. She attended Fostoria Baptist Church in Fostoria. She loved the outdoors, especially her flower gardens. The most important thing to her was spending time with her children, grandchildren and extended family.

Joanne will be lovingly missed by her children, Belinda Abbott of Fostoria, Sabrena Bonnett of Wisconsin and Nelson Miller III of Fostoria; brother, Steve Nokovich of Duran; grandchildren, Amanda Abbott, Casey Kelch, Sam (Katie) Kelch and Ken (Joyce) Kelch; and great-grandchild Myles; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Nelson in 2006; brothers, Ralph Nokovich and Mike Pesich, and her parents.
